Classic country chicken gravy / Nattu kozhi kulambhu

# A supremely delicious South Indian dish rich in various nutrients.

Ingredients:

  • Country chicken 1/2 kg

  • large size big onion - 1

  • Large size tomatoes - 2

  • Oil -2 to 3 tbsp

  • Ginger garlic paste - 1tbsp

  • Chilli powder-1 tbsp

  • Coriander powder-1 tbsp

  • Turmeric-1 tsp

  • Salt - 2 tsp ( as required)

  • Black pepper-1tsp

  • Jeera -1tsp

  • Saunf-1tsp

  • Cloves - 4

  • Cinnamon - 1 small stick

  • Almonds -8

  • Coconut- 1/2 cup

  • Curry leaves


Cooking method:



Cut the chicken into medium size pieces.

Wash throughly and cook it in a pressure cooker with 3 cups of water,1tsp of turmeric powder,1 tsp of salt - for 3 whistles and keep aside .





Add 2 tbsp of oil into a heated pan .

Once the oil is heated add the finely chopped onions and sauté till it becomes light brown .

Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell leaves .


Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté well for 4 minutes.

Now add chilli powder, coriander powder , salt and sauté for 2 minutes.

Next add the cooked chicken pieces without the broth and gently mix until all the chicken pieces are coated with the masala.



Add the chicken broth and leave it to cook under medium flame with lids closed for 10 minutes, stirring gently in between.




While this cooks ..

In another small saucepan roast the black pepper, jeera , saunf , cloves, cinnamon, almonds in a heated dry pan for 2 minutes under medium flame .

Then add the grated coconut and roast till it turns to light brown.

Grind the above mixture in a mixie to fine paste by adding required water .

Add this fine paste along with 1 cup of water to the chicken gravy and cook for another 10 minutes under low flame .


Next add 1 tsp of oil into a heated small pan and add curry leaves. Once it splutters add to the chicken gravy .


Transfer it to a serving bowl.

Garnish with cut coriander leaves.

Your yummy classic nattu kozhi kulambhu / country chicken gravy is ready.

This goes well with idly , dosai, cooked rice.
