Cooking time - 40 minutes
Prep - 15 minutes
Cooking - 25 minutes
Ingredients:
Water - 5 cups
Sugar - 2½ cups
Crushed Cardamom - 4
Ready made Gulab jamun mix -1½ cups
Milk - ½ cup
Refined Oil - 200ml
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Prep work :
To five cups of boiling water in a wide bottomed saucepan add 2 and a half cups of sugar. On a medium flame stir the contents to dissolve the sugar.
Add crushed cardamom to this solution and keep stirring for a few minutes. Place a lid on and let it simmer for about 15 minutes over a low flame.
Check the consistency of the sugar syrup and switch off the flame once it becomes a thick syrup with a sticky consistency.
Mix the instant Gulab jamun mix and milk to make a smooth and soft dough. Keep it covered for 10 minutes.
Dip your finger in oil and apply over your palm of one hand.
Take small piece of dough (a small gooseberry size) place it on your palm and make a smooth ball by rolling gently with two fingers of your other hand.
Make similar dough balls with all of the kneaded dough.

To a hot pan add 200 ml of oil with 2 tbsp of ghee.
Once the oil and ghee become hot, drop the smooth round doughballs upto 10 at any one time into the oil over a low flame. Stir to ensure that all doughballs have a uniform golden brown colour. Once done drain on to grease proof paper.
Add the fried doughballs to the prepared sugar syrup in the wide bottomed pan. This will ensure that individual doughballs can absorb the syrup and grow in size without crowding. Let this soak for about 45 minutes.
The result is smooth round glistening gulab jamuns. Serve warm.
