Potato masala / poori masala recipe
Potato peas masala for Poori is a beautiful potato based curry, made especially to be paired with Pooris, an ideal breakfast dish enjoyed across all ages. It’s prepared with cooked potatoes, onions, tomatoes, green chillies, green peas and few Indian spices.

Ingredients
Potato - 3 medium size
Tomato - 2 medium size
Onion - 1 big size
Green chilli - 2
Garlic - 6 pods
Green peas - ½ cup
Masalas:
Coriander powder - ½ tsp
Red chilli powder - ½ tsp
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Garam masala powder - ¼ tsp
Ginger garlic powder - ¼ tsp
Hing (asafoetida powder) - ¼ tsp
Salt 1tsp or as required
other Ingredients:
Cooking oil - 2 Tbsp
Mustard seeds - ¼ tsp
Jeera - ¼ tsp
Urad dal - ½ tsp
Curry leaves few
Cooking method
Clean the potatoes with running water throughly. Cut them into half lengthwise. Add 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker. Add quarter tsp of hing and cook the potatoes for 3 whistles.
Meantime chop the onion and tomatoes into smaller sizes, slit the green chilli and then cut into half. Crush the garlic pods by using mortar and pestle. Keep all these aside.
Then check for the potatoes. Drain the water and take them from the cooker. Remove the skin and dice into half an inch cube sizes and keep it aside.
Now let’s go to cooking steps.
Step 1: To a heated pan add 2 tbsp of oil. Once the oil is heated up add the mustard seeds, jeera, urad dal. Once it splutters add the curry leaves.
Step 2: Add the crushed garlic and sauté for a minute.
Step 3: Then add the chopped onions, green chillis and sauté for 2 minutes until it becomes translucent.
Step 4: Add the green peas and sauté for a minute.
Step 5: Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté for 3 minutes until it becomes soft.
Step 6: Next add the coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, salt and give it a mix.
Step 7: Add the diced potatoes and mix well.
Step 8: To this add 1 cup of water and cook with lid closed for few minutes, with intermittent stirring until you get the desired consistency and then turn off the flame. Sprinkle ginger garlic powder to finish and give a gentle mix.
Step 9: Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy your yummy, delicious potato peas masala.

Step 10: Goes well with poori, Chapathi and with dosa.
